The Mesa Association of Sports for the Disabled, doing business as Arizona Disabled Sports (AzDS), began using this name in 2007 and is a non-profit organization. Its mission is to provide a variety of sports and recreation programs and activities to individuals with all types of disabilities, and its vision is a community that creates opportunities that empower individuals of all abilities through sports and recreation. The organization uses the slogan, “Let No One Sit on the Sidelines!”

Arizona Disabled Sports offers Team Mesa programs for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and Arizona Heat Physically Challenged programs for individuals with physical disabilities. The sports programs for individuals with physical disabilities are for athletes ages 6 through adulthood who have an orthopedic, neurological, or sensory impairment, and Team Mesa programs include sports training, competitions, and recreational activities for individuals ages 8 through adulthood who are intellectually developmentally disabled. Participation is not limited to Mesa residents, and many participants come from the metropolitan Phoenix area and across Arizona, with about 1,000 local athletes in seasonal training and competitions and about 500 additional athletes from across the country in Association-sponsored events. AzDS often hosts programs in Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale.

The Team Mesa Adaptive Sports programs are a collaborative effort between the City of Mesa Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities, Mesa Public Schools, and Arizona Disabled Sports. The Association coordinates resources with Mesa Public Schools and the City of Mesa Parks, Recreation and Commercial Facilities, and serves as Team Mesa in competitions hosted by Special Olympics Arizona while remaining a separate non-profit organization.
