Ballet Theatre of Phoenix

Ballet Theatre of Phoenix offers Creative Movement for ages 3 and older, with gentle warm-up, stretching, and games using scarves, ribbons, or improvisation with costumes. It also offers Primary Ballet 1-3 for ages 5 and older, where students learn the structure of a ballet class, musicality, spatial awareness, strength, flexibility, and beginning ballet vocabulary. For ages 8 and older, Lower Division: Level 1-4 includes barre, center work, technique, musicality, artistry, and Progressing Ballet Technique/Conditioning for Levels 1-3.

Programs

• Creative Movement — Ages 3 and older · In the Primary Ballet Program; gentle warm up, stretching, and games with props like scarves, ribbons, or improvisation with costumes.
• Primary Ballet 1-3 — Ages 5 and older · In the Primary Ballet Program; students are introduced to the structure of a ballet class and learn musicality, spatial awareness, strength, flexibility, and beginning ballet vocabulary.
• Lower Division: Level 1-4 — Ages 8 and older · In the Classical Ballet Program; full classical ballet class with barre, center work, technique, musicality, artistry, and Progressing Ballet Technique/Conditioning for Levels 1-3.
• Pre-Professional Division — Ages 11 and older · In the Classical Ballet Program; complex combinations, pointe class, and Progressing Ballet Technique/Conditioning for Levels 4-7.
• Dance for All — Ages 12+ · Drop-in classes open to ages 12+.
• Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) — Levels 1-Pre-Professional · Program to understand training muscle memory, alignment, weight-placement, and core control.
• Tap — Ages 12+ · Dance for All tap class.
• Adult Open Classes — Adults · YEAR-ROUND; drop in only; times include Monday-Friday and Saturday classes · Open to the public year-round with no registration required.

About the provider

The mission of Ballet Theatre of Phoenix is to provide excellent classical ballet instruction that trains the whole dancer and helps students understand themselves not only as artists and performers, but also as people. In August 2017, the program launched the PLIÉS Program, Providing Leaps In Elementary School, in partnership with Loma Linda Elementary School, providing underserved students in their neighborhood with full immersion in a world-class arts education in Classical Ballet.

Open enrollment year round. Adult Open Classes are drop in only with no registration required. For the Primary Ballet Program and Classical Ballet Program, level placement classes are scheduled by calling the office. One note states it is not uncommon for a student to spend more than 1 year in a level.
