In August 2017, Ballet Theatre of Phoenix launched the PLIÉS Program in partnership with Loma Linda Elementary School to provide underserved students with full immersion in arts education in Classical Ballet. The school curriculum follows the ABT National Training Curriculum, which is a program for the development and training of young students that uses sound ballet principles and elements of the French, Italian, and Russian schools of training. This curriculum focuses on kinetics, coordination, anatomy, and proper body alignment, and aims to give students knowledge of classical ballet technique and the ability to adapt to different styles and techniques of dance.

The mission of Ballet Theatre of Phoenix is to provide classical ballet instruction that trains the whole dancer so students understand themselves as an artist, performer, and person. The faculty brings experience, knowledge, artistry, and compassion to the studio and is dedicated to nurturing a future generation of dancers and passing on the heritage of classical ballet. As School Director, Ian Parsons leads all aspects of Ballet Theatre of Phoenix’s artistic and educational programming, including curriculum, faculty development, performance, outreach, and strategic vision, and also leads Convergence Ballet. Ian Parsons is a former dancer with Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, The National Ballet of Canada, and London’s West End, and brings decades of international experience as a performer, teacher, and leader in dance education.
