ATA Martial Arts has registered over 1,500,000 students since 1969, when Grand Master H.U. Lee came to America after the Korean War. The ATA describes itself as the premier worldwide organization dedicated to the martial arts discipline of taekwondo, self-defense, kickboxing, fitness, and leadership training. It is described as the world's largest martial arts organization with curriculum consistency and quality control, with more than 1,200 ATA locations around the world and 700 in the United States, including 20 ATA locations in Arizona. All instructors at Lee's ATA Martial Arts Arizona have passed an intensive certification process based on 55 years of standardization.
