About

MIMkids Programs include activities such as singing, dancing, playing instruments, making music, creating musical instruments, and exploring MIM’s exhibits with a designated tour guide. Participants can explore music from around the globe, travel the world through music in MIM’s Geographic Galleries, get a close-up look at instruments played by influential artists in the Artist Gallery, and make music in the Experience Gallery. Some students train to lead tours while exploring MIM’s Geographic Galleries and may lead group tours for upcoming Signature Events, and families can also use MIMkids resources for instrument-building activities and additional resources.

• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Schedule: Open daily 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

MIMkids Programs include Mini Music Makers for ages 0–5 years, which introduces children to music and movement while they sing, dance, and play instruments, with motor, pre-language, and musical skills developed simultaneously as children and caregivers actively participate in the music making. Musical Adventures for ages 6–10 years includes making music, creating musical instruments, and exploring MIM’s exhibits with a designated tour guide, with each session focusing on a different region and giving participants an overview of music from around the world and an opportunity to collect MIMkids passport stamps. Junior Museum Guides for grades 6–12 includes learning about cultures from around the world, participating in music making, and discovering the wide world of music, and students who complete all four classes are given the opportunity to lead group tours for upcoming Signature Events. MIMkids Resources for ages 0–10 years offers instrument-building activities and additional resources.

The Musical Instrument Museum is described as the World’s Only Global Musical Instrument Museum and presents more than 4,200 instruments on display from every corner of the globe. MIM presents a wide variety of concerts in a comfortable, acoustically superb 300-seat theater, with approximately 200 artists appearing each year, including many who have rarely, if ever, been seen in Phoenix, and concerts range from jazz to classical, bluegrass to singer-songwriters. A special performance, “An Evening with Chris Martin: The History of C. F. Martin & Co.,” featured Chris Martin IV sharing stories from the company’s nearly 200-year history, and a longtime MIM partner, C. F. Martin & Co., is highlighted in a special performance that spotlights rare instruments from the company. Through a generous gift, Curt and Karen Ulrich are supporting the experience that MIM’s theater provides for both artists and concert attendees.

MIM has been rated Phoenix’s #1 attraction and Best Museum. Testimonials describe MIM as “one of the greatest museums not just in the country but on the planet” (Eddie Vedder), “my favorite museum in the world” (Tony Bennett), and “people, culture, music, humanity” (MIM guest, Facebook). The MIM Music Theater has been called “the best venue in the country” by David Harrington of Kronos Quartet, and a MIM guest on Tripadvisor notes that the intimacy of the music hall makes it feel as if the artist is performing just for the individual listener. Andy Summers of The Police states, “Music is magic, and MIM is where you can see it.”
