Phoenix Children’s Chorus
Phoenix Bible Church, 6060 N 7th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85013
About
Phoenix Children’s Chorus offers engaging choral rehearsals that integrate a music education curriculum, music literacy, and the study and practice of vocal technique. Participants take part in small group music literacy classes, community building, and travel through touring ensembles, domestic touring, and international touring. The program includes a music exploration program for K–3, a staged concert series, community performances, and performances in Arizona’s finest concert venues, along with a weekend overnight camp.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
Phoenix Children’s Chorus welcomes K–12 children and youth and serves children from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds. The program includes multiple choral experiences, including PCC Downtown as an auditioned premier program for children in grades 3–12, PCC Voices as a neighborhood choir program for children in grades 3–9, and Poco Voce as a no-audition music exploration program for K–3 offered at all locations. Choristers perform an array of styles and genres, premiere new works, and sing traditional choral favorites, and the organization tours throughout the United States and to international destinations such as Germany, Australia, Italy, China, Ireland, Argentina, and Russia.
Since 1984, Phoenix Children’s Chorus has been transforming lives through music for more than 40 years and began with just 35 children, later becoming a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2010. The artistic team is comprised of highly qualified, experienced, and successful educators. The mission of Phoenix Children’s Chorus is to foster excellence in youth by facilitating artistic, cultural, and personal development through choral education and performance, and it is recognized as Arizona's premier youth choral program and Arizona’s premier mixed-voice youth choral education program.
Phoenix Children’s Chorus serves local communities with engaging choral rehearsals integrated with music literacy, and choristers gain cultural and musical experiences that form the foundations of tolerance, respect, and understanding. The organization collaborates with fellow arts organizations, and alumni volunteer at the annual camp in August, assist on special committees, help at concerts, and support the implementation of fund-raising events. Any monetary donation is eligible for a nonprofit donation tax write-off, can be directed to purposes such as the general operating fund or Legacy Endowment, and can be used to fund a scholarship to provide participation for a chorister who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
“Singing in PCC helped me develop discipline, technique, passion, and a drive for excellence that set me up for a successful career in music. I remember my directors in PCC raising the bar every rehearsal, every concert, every performance, all the while working to create a safe and inclusive environment. I now continue on this trajectory, striving for choral excellence while creating a sense of belonging for the singers I interact with, both as a professional choral singer and as a music educator.” - Katherine Rosenfeld, PCC Class of 2015, Choir Teacher, AZ School for the Arts; Singer, Phoenix Chorale
