About

Y-Academy @ Monterey Park uses hands-on activities that are teacher led using the Creative Curriculum academic model. Children take part in circle time, themed learning centers, skill-based work jobs, structured play, group activities, presentations, music, and art.

• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, with care available 6:30am–6:00pm and Y-Ready academic hours in the morning

Y-Academy @ Monterey Park offers Y-Ready as an academically focused enrichment program that prepares 3- to 5-year-olds for kindergarten and is aligned to the Arizona Department of Education kindergarten readiness standards. Y-Ready is a part-day option that includes drop off between 8:30–9:00am, academic hours from 9:00am–12:00pm, and lunch from 12:00–12:30pm. The program includes an Observers class where each child follows their own eating and sleeping schedule, a Discoverers class with a structured day that prioritizes learning through play, and an Explorers classroom with structured activities and frequent opportunities for language development and early concepts in language, math, science, and the arts. It also includes an Innovators Preschool program that emphasizes learning through play with more advanced classroom structures and routines, and a Scholars program for ages 4–5 that builds a social foundation of knowledge and prepares for a transition to kindergarten. The curriculum is described as holistic and balances structured learning with creative exploration in a warm and welcoming atmosphere where every child feels valued and safe, with a nurturing environment that supports emotional, social, and physical development.

The program is part of Y-Academy Early Learning and is led on-site by Monterey Park Center Director Michaela Bowker. The YMCA notes that its early learning programs are state-licensed and use an award-winning Creative Curriculum. The organization reports serving Arizona for over 130 years and operates as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The staff includes a team of certified teachers with expertise, passion, and dedication to early childhood education. Families have shared testimonials describing their experiences, including comments from Samira C., Licia G., Alex K., and Aanya H. about the activities, balance of learning and play, staff, and their children’s growth and confidence.
