Scottsdale Cal Ripken Baseball League, 8175 E Evans Rd, PO Box 14074, Scottsdale, AZ 85260
About
Scottsdale Cal Ripken Baseball League offers youth baseball that includes practices, scrimmages, pool play, and tournament games. Players can take part in tournament team tryouts, and selected teams may travel together to state and regional baseball tournaments.
• Ages: 4–12 years old
• Schedule: Practices begin after the Spring season ends in early May and are held multiple times per week for about four weeks, with state tournaments normally in early June and regional tournaments in July.
• Price: Registration fees for selected tournament team players are approximately $250, covering uniform, practice fields, and state tournament fees; families pay for travel, hotels, and meals for state and regional tournaments.
Scottsdale Cal Ripken Baseball League was established in 1988 and is one of the oldest youth baseball leagues in the Scottsdale area. It is a non-profit 501(c)3 youth baseball league and a state franchise of Cal Ripken Baseball, supporting about 1000 kids each season and offering recreational, developmental, and competitive leagues in the Spring and Fall for players aged 4–12. The league also offers a tournament summer league for players who want to compete at a higher level, with tournament teams created through a tryout process from the best players in each age division.
Tournament qualification requires Spring enrollment in the same calendar year of the tournament in the Scottsdale Cal Ripken league, and Fall baseball does not impact eligibility. Regional tournaments are held for every division except Machine Pitch, which does not have a regional tournament. There is no payment required to register for tryouts, and if a player attends both tryouts, the league uses the highest scores in the selection process. During the regular season, coaches are required to play all players in the field, but during tournaments there may be circumstances when a child does not play, at the coach’s discretion, and fielding multiple teams for an age level may be considered if there are enough players.
The league is run completely by a volunteer board of directors, and the SCR All Star Coordinator announces team managers and coaches when rosters are finalized. The league’s mission is to provide a positive and enriching experience for all of its players, regardless of their age or skill level.
