The Webb Center’s Arts for Kids Program – Theater Ninjas
Webb Center, 1090 S. Vulture Mine Road, Wickenburg, AZ 85390
About
The Webb Center’s Arts for Kids Program – Theater Ninjas introduces high school students to technical theatre concepts and skills with hands-on instruction. Participants learn the technical names of stage equipment and theatre terminology, are introduced to theatre lighting instruments and elements of lighting design, and are exposed to the functionality of the fly-system. Students gain knowledge of the sound system, including how sound is created, conducted through digital equipment, balanced, and emitted through speaker arrays, and they practice creating lighting designs and stage plots, stage management with guidance from Webb Center staff, and operating a fly-system in a safe manner.
• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: At the end of the four-year Theater Ninjas high school program, students will graduate with a full set of technical theatre skills.
The program is an after-school club led by the Webb Center’s professional staff and uses STEM concepts as a basis for understanding technical theatre terminology, equipment, functionality, usage, and proper maintenance. Students help load-in and strike touring shows in the Webb Center’s season, work side-by-side with professional artists and their road crews, and provide technical assistance during school events by working the sound and light boards. They create stage plots and lighting designs for stage productions ranging from orchestral programs and theatrical performances to country music concerts and dance performances. The program is part of a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to present culturally diverse, live performing arts and educational experiences that inspire audiences and artistically transform the community.
