The House Dance Complex is a community dance studio for serious dancers with like-minded goals and is a non-competitive studio. It is the home of The Void Mentorship Program and the ERAS Advanced Youth Training Program, and it offers an in-house program with an annual re-audition requirement rather than per session. Dancers in the in-house program are automatically accepted for the summer session but must re-audition for the fiscal school year from fall through spring.
Owner and Director Emily Lutes (Thompson) was born and raised in Southern California and competed as a competitive dancer for 12 years. She graduated from The University of Arizona in 2013 with a BFA in Dance and dances in Los Angeles for Go 2 Talent Agency (GTA). At 16, she began touring across the United States as an assistant with Tremaine Dance Convention and furthered her studies in Chicago with River North Dance Company. She has worked with choreographers including Bryan Tanaka, Dominique Kelley, Ashley Everette, Gustavo Vargas, Mark Meismer, Joe Tremaine, Desiree Robbins, Zach Woodlee, Spencer Liff, Keri LaGrand, Sam Watson, Michael Williams, and Miki Orihara. Her performance work includes touring with Mariah Carey on the All I Want For Christmas Worldwide Tour in 2017, performing with Seamless Dance Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri, dancing in Dee Caspary’s Nvitational in a piece called “In This Shirt” choreographed by Keri LaGrand, stunt doubling on NBC’s “Reverie,” dancing in Disney Channel commercials for a Nintendo N-R-G game, appearing in a Metrolink commercial and a promo for “American Horror Stories,” filming music videos such as “Breakfast Can Wait” by Prince and “Little Bit Louder” by Radical Something, performing as a fitness performer for BeFit Fitness produced by Cal Pozo, and working on green-screen as a pointe dancer for Paintscaping Productions.
The mission of The House Dance Complex states that it is a community dance studio for serious dancers with like-minded goals and a non-competitive studio that takes dancing to the next level by enhancing HOUSE training or complementing existing studio or school training. As an artist and teacher, Emily’s primary goal in the mission statement is to invoke, inspire, and create a truly visceral experience, and she states that she hopes to learn more about herself and whom she is becoming by taking opportunities that come her way while sharing her experience with aspiring dancers. The studio describes itself as a non-competitive studio that will attract dancers from the community for training.
The House Dance Complex is described as “coming in 2019.” One testimonial from Rhea congratulates Emily on opening her own studio, notes that Emily was her first dance teacher and taught her a lot, and states that she plans to be there often. Another testimonial from Bailey describes Emily as one of her favorite dancers and dance teachers, expresses excitement about the new studio in Agoura Hills, and encourages others to check out and follow The House Dance Complex coming in 2019.
