The founder, Summer Lee, has been part of the LEGO education field since 2009 and began opening LEGO education centers in 2013. Since 2009, Summer Lee and U.S. STEM Education Foundation have grown from serving 167 youth to more than 193,000 students across the world, with the help of over 7,300 volunteers. The organization has been offering STEM learning experiences for over ten years and is an affiliate partner of Robo Tourney and FIRST, supporting Robo Tourney International, FIRST LEGO League Jr, FIRST LEGO League, and FIRST Tech Challenge teams worldwide. Current sponsors provide supplies, machinery, funds, training space, and more, and the organization is able to use donations of supplies, machinery, funds, and training space, with multiple donation methods including check, online bank transfer via Zelle, and PayPal. Mentorship is an essential component of its robotics teams, using both technical and nontechnical skilled individuals.
