About
Alameda Arts offers arts enrichment that includes creative exploration, creative play, and a mix of art and play. The program features curated, engaging art activities, art projects, and at-home projects, along with weekly YouTube videos that teach art and kindness.
• Ages: 5–11 years old
Alameda Arts was born in January 2012. Its mission is to provide arts enrichment for all while keeping the values of kindness, acceptance, and creativity at the forefront, with programs that focus on creative exploration and inspiring students of all ages to tap into their imagination and explore the potential of the arts and play. The program offers play-based, art-infused, child-focused after school enrichment programs for students in grades K–5, as well as two types of camp experiences called Day Camp by the Beach and Camp on the Road, which are group adventures around the bay. Alameda Arts also offers at-home projects with weekly YouTube videos that teach art and kindness, and its social media team regularly posts new art projects on Instagram and YouTube.
Staff must pass a Live Scan screening with the Department of Justice and have proof of a negative TB test to work with children. The leadership and staff team includes founders Ms. Kate and Ms. Hazel; site directors Jolene Morales, Joanna Morales, Ornella Soto, and Elyjah Rayndles; teaching staff members Taylor Edwards, Cherish Portolese, Izzy Schmidt, Jeremiah Cole, Cleo Escamilla, Luke Walker, Diego Dawson, Curtis Cameron, Stephanie Bailey, Joyce Santiago, Lily McKee, Khloe West, and Ella Chabre; social media supervisor Dorothy P-D; social media coordinator Kiele Head; lead video editor Neema Wangyal; and director of operations Ron Whittaker. Alameda Arts also runs Create Like a Kid TM, launched in 2020 to make space for grownups to have fun with art, and offers grownup programs for team and community building. The program employs high schoolers so students have “big friends,” and many middle school students who are Alameda Arts alumni drop in to visit and play. One parent says, “I love the support and understanding my child has through the program. Ms. Kate and the other leaders are compassionate and kind. My son loves this program!”
