About

Golden Bay Preschool offers a child-centered, High Scope inspired, play-based preschool program that includes piano lessons at no extra charge. The program includes year-round, literacy-rich toddler and preschool programs, with all children exposed to Spanish and Chinese and given chances to explore various careers and professions through visits from people such as firefighters, dentists, chefs, and gardeners. Children have access to seven modern, high-tech classrooms and a 40,000 square foot well-equipped outdoor playground, and teachers provide a daily recap of what was learned to parents.

• Ages: 12 months to 6 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday to Friday, 7:30AM–6:00PM (closed on major national holidays)

Golden Bay Preschool serves children in a print and literacy rich environment, with the stated expectation that every child who attends for one year of preschool and one year of prekindergarten should be able to read and write and read any age-appropriate books given to them. The program states that every child who attends will discover their spark and will grow and learn in an environment intended to ignite their passion for reading, writing, and learning. Piano lessons are offered without extra charge to build an appreciation and love for music, and enrichment classes are provided by local professionals.

The mission of Golden Bay Preschool is to create a safe, healthy, and welcoming community where children are able to grow intellectually, socially, and cognitively and develop a lifetime interest in continually learning and exploring the world around them. All teachers are fully qualified early childhood educators and are CPR and first aid certified, and they use the Early Childhood Curriculum Planning Tool to assess every child. Parent-teacher conferences are conducted, and teachers are described as loving and caring, supporting and adapting to children’s unique needs while teaching according to the school’s philosophy, mission, and vision.

The program’s location in the heart of Alameda is used for regular trips to the Alameda Main Library, and the school arranges for a police car and a firetruck to visit so children can observe how they operate. These community experiences are described as allowing children to immerse themselves in the community.
