HĀLAU MAKANA is the only Polynesian dance group in Alameda, CA. The center operates as HĀLAU MAKANA Polynesian Cultural Arts Center, Inc., which is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. Its mission is to preserve Polynesian cultures through dance, art, and music and to share these cultural art forms with anyone who has a desire to learn. The director of HĀLAU MAKANA is involved in Disney's live-action “Moana.” The mural “Culture Keepers: Hālau Makana” illuminates a matrilineage of dancers including Lillian Cid, Lani Cid-Iulio, and Jade Makana Iulio, and these three generations of Kumus teach traditions, rhythms, and stories from times far before their ancestors used written language to record their histories. Kumu Lani's Legacy Fundraiser donates all proceeds to HĀLAU MAKANA. Typical response time to inquiries is 2–3 business days.
