Hālau Makana Polynesian Cultural Arts Center offers dance, art, and music focused on Hawaiian, Tahitian, and Maori cultures. The program is run by Jade Makana Iulio. All classes are held at Harbor Bay Club, Alameda CA.
Hālau Makana’s mission is “preserving the Hawaiian, Tahitian, and Maori cultures through dance, art and music, and to share these cultural art forms with anyone who has a desire to learn.” Hālau Makana Polynesian Cultural Arts Center, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. The organization describes its values as rooted in family, community, service, and tradition, and it describes itself as “culture keepers” who protect and propel traditional arts into the future. Three generations of Kumus teach traditions, rhythms, and stories from times far before their ancestors used written language to record their histories. Donations are always gratefully appreciated.
