In 2012, Master Yan (Yanqing Ding) founded his first martial arts school, named the International Chi Institute, to share his years of martial arts experience with martial arts admirers. Director Master Yan started martial arts in childhood and was selected by the Shaolin Temple in Songshan, Henan at the age of eight to continue his Kung Fu training as a lay disciple. After 10 years of intensive training at Shaolin Temple, he became proficient with eighteen weapons and a variety of Kung Fu boxing and began teaching Kung Fu there in 2002, giving him more than 20 years of teaching experience to date. Master Yan won many gold medals in martial arts contests, including the International Wushu Championship, the World Traditional Wushu Instruments Championship, and Shaolin boxing contests. In 2004, at the Great Hall of Beijing, his martial arts performances were highly praised by Chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Vladimir Putin. In 2006, the Chinese government selected him as one of ten best martial artists to accompany Premier Wen Jiabao and other national leaders to visit Egypt, where their performance was broadcast live by China Central Television and Egyptian Television.
