Gaia Guides was founded in 2017 and is a small, women-owned, locally owned outdoor adventure program with over 20 years of experience in youth leadership and outdoor education. The leadership team includes Founder Victoria Anweiler and Program Director Lily Manderville. Instructors are CPR and First Aid certified, and the program describes itself as heart-driven, safety-first, eco-focused, community-based, and intentionally small. Gaia Guides offers kids summer camps, family paddle nights, private group events, and youth leadership experiences on the water, and also offers customizable paddling adventures for school field trips, birthdays, and other special occasions.

Gaia Guides states that its mission is to help kids and families discover what they are capable of, learn to care for the world around them, and head home proud of what they have accomplished. It is a community-based program that is locally owned and rooted in Alameda’s South Shore community, serving families, schools, city programs, nonprofits, and partner organizations throughout Alameda, Oakland, the greater East Bay, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Parent reviews describe Gaia Guides as a stand-up paddleboard summer camp where kids kayak and mostly paddleboard, including activities such as paddling to the Hornet, SUP yoga, and SUP Olympics. Testimonials highlight that wetsuits are provided, staff actively monitor water and weather and plan activities based on conditions, and instructors are described as friendly, kind, patient, and professional. Families also describe Tuesday Family Paddle Nights as an activity that works for a wide range of ages, where kids paddle for free on their first visit and where both new and experienced paddlers receive instruction and guidance.
