About
Kids Elite Club offers daily activities in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, computers, architecture, chemistry, biology, art, theatre, 3D printing, cooking, music, coding, networking, circuitry, computer hardware, robot design, programming, circuit board design, servo motor engineering, schematic engineering, upcycling, painting, crafting, DIY projects, baking pastries, and cooking meals. Children also study languages, including Mandarin and Spanish, as part of the program. The program includes S.T.E.A.M. learning that combines hands-on work with these subjects.
• Ages: 5–11 years old
• Schedule: For Alameda students in kindergarten through 5th grades, Kids Elite Club offers a S.T.E.A.M. plus language academic enrichment program until 6 pm, with full-day S.T.E.A.M. academic enrichment programs on most days that Alameda schools are not in session, including week-long breaks.
The Kids Elite Club computer lab includes eight laptops, electronic microscopes, tablets, a 3D printer, and a 70-inch display for demonstrations. Additional dedicated spaces include a main classroom, flexible activity space, tech center, engineering room, art room, electronic microscopes area, 3D printer corner, cooking area (kitchen), robotic technology area, science lab, and access to Lincoln Park. One ongoing project has children building a human-size robot that is entirely 3D printed by children, using controller boards, servos, wiring, soldering, programming, and what the program describes as “101 computer languages,” with servo motors giving the robot the ability to move, respond to human commands, and talk back in programmed verbal conversation. The robot project is part of the Kids Elite Club curriculum, and staff are equipped with skills in C++, Java, engineering, Arduino, and diverse technology.
The leadership team includes Co-Founder and Director Kiki Chen (Mandarin, math, AI), Co-Founder Cesar Hernandez (technology and engineering educator), art teacher Dioselina Martinez, science and engineering teacher Su Fei Lin, cooking and Mandarin teacher Sophy, and engineering technology teacher Malia Chiu. Kiki Chen has certifications in Chinese Language Pedagogy and Child Development and more than a decade of experience teaching Mandarin and Japanese. Cesar Hernandez has more than 20 years of experience as an Infrastructure Engineer in Information Technology, and Su Fei Lin has over 40 years of experience teaching physics and general science. The team also includes an emotional support dog named Mantao, who periodically visits to offer kids comfort, and a Robot Dog described as a Tech Support Dog that enhances learning and fun for children.
The Kids Elite Club mission states that its immersive learning process is designed to help students grow and explore their interests, combining tradition with 21st-century learning. The mission explains that educators encourage students to think critically, solve problems, answer open-ended questions, and use hands-on exploration and creation, with daily S.T.E.A.M. learning and attention to both core academic areas and non-academic life skills. The guiding principles include children enjoying learning, experiencing success to foster new experiences, supporting self-motivation by providing various subject materials, showing respect to students, staff, parents, and community members, treating everyone as an individual whose needs and learning style are nurtured, and fostering a sense of responsibility and respect for the rights and needs of others. Kids Elite Club is described as a community for children, parents, and staff to foster development to the best of their abilities.
Kids Elite Club is for Alameda students in kindergarten through 5th grades, and Kiki previously taught the Language Alive Mandarin enrichment program with AEF before founding Kids Elite Club. The program has been featured in Alameda Magazine. In a testimonial, Co-founder and Director Kiki Chen states, “I feel like this is my calling. This is the best reward anyone can possibly ask for. I love bringing children a positive point of view and to help expand their minds in the most helpful way possible.”
