• Ages: 5–11 years old
• Schedule: After-school S.T.E.A.M. plus Language academic enrichment for Alameda kindergarten through 5th grade students until 6 pm, with full-day S.T.E.A.M. academic enrichment on most non-school days, including week-long breaks
The Kids Elite Club space includes a main classroom and flexible activity area, a computer lab with eight laptops, electronic microscopes, tablets, a 3D printer, and a 70-inch display for demonstrations, as well as a tech center, engineering room, art room, science lab, robotic technology center, and kitchen. Kids Elite Club also uses Lincoln Park as part of its activity spaces.
The leadership team includes Co-Founder and Director Kiki Chen (Mandarin, math, AI), Co-Founder Cesar Hernandez (technology and engineering educator), art teacher Dioselina Martinez, science and engineering teacher Su Fei Lin, cooking and Mandarin teacher Sophy, and engineering technology teacher Malia Chiu. Mantao serves as an Emotional Support Dog, and a Robot Dog serves as a Tech Support Dog. Kiki Chen holds certifications in Chinese Language Pedagogy and Child Development and has more than a decade of experience teaching Mandarin and Japanese, Cesar Hernandez has more than 20 years of experience as an Infrastructure Engineer in Information Technology, and Su Fei Lin has over 40 years of experience teaching physics and general science.
Kids Elite Club runs enrichment programs, non-school day classes, and summer camps, including weekly themed camps throughout the summer and spring breaks. A human-size robot project, entirely 3D printed by children with servo motors, controller boards, wiring, soldering, and programming, is part of the Kids Elite curriculum, and the robot is programmed to respond to human commands and talk back in verbal conversation. Staff are equipped with skills in C++, Java, engineering, and Arduino and work with diverse cutting-edge technology. Kids Elite Club has been featured in Alameda Magazine, and Mantao periodically visits to spend time with children and offer comfort.
The program’s mission states that Kids Elite students are engaged in S.T.E.A.M. learning every day with an emphasis on core academic areas as well as non-academic life skills, and that the immersive learning process is designed to help students grow and explore their interests. The mission also states that educators encourage students to think critically, solve problems, answer open-ended questions, and use hands-on exploration and creation, and that each day includes new educational and social situations. The guiding principles include children enjoying learning, experiencing success, fostering self-motivation through varied subject materials, showing respect to students, staff, parents, and community members, treating everyone as an individual with unique needs and learning styles, and fostering a sense of responsibility and respect for the rights and needs of others. Co-founder and director Kiki Chen describes her work by saying, “I feel like this is my calling. This is the best reward anyone can possibly ask for. I love bringing children a positive point of view and to help expand their minds in the most helpful way possible.”
