Max Skills Basketball Camp is led by experienced and certified coaches, with Coach Max Langaard serving as Camp Director. The camp’s mission is to teach, develop, train, and manage youth players to help them learn the fundamental skills of basketball while instilling life-lessons and values such as character, team work, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship. The program offers year-round youth basketball camps and classes for athletes ages 5–14, including an adaptive Jr Hoops program for the youngest athletes that features lower baskets and a small ball, and it is tailored for all ages and skill levels from beginners to advanced. Weekly camps are open to boys and girls ages 5–14, with hourly drop-ins, 1-day, 2-day, and other options available, and campers enrolled in any Max Skills Summer Camp session receive two free training sessions during their camp week. The program focuses on building basketball skills, fitness, teamwork, discipline, confidence, leadership, and sportsmanship and serves families across Alameda and the greater Bay Area.
Parents describe Coach Max as patient, very great with children, and someone who works with kids of all skill levels from beginners to experienced, with some children asking to extend from morning-only to full-day camp, according to Monica L. One parent, Joanne, notes that the camp is dedicated to taking kids’ basketball skills to the next level and mentions “mini coaches” who trained with Coach Max when they were younger. Another parent, Linda H., reports that her 5-year-old daughter with no prior basketball knowledge learned basics and made friends, and that her 7-year-old son gained a stronger understanding of basketball through drills, running the ball, and scrimmage, also mentioning smaller hoops for younger kids, as well as snacks, stickers, and Gatorade. Karen R. calls it an amazing experience with lots of various basketball-related activities at what she describes as a great rate. Shefali N. shares that her daughters started with no basketball experience, came away with a love for the game, learned a warm-up routine called “crazy 8s,” and appreciated the snacks and drinks.
