About
Neptune Nature School offers a completely outdoor preschool, TK, and kindergarten program where children spend their day in exploration, play, negotiation, art, and social-emotional development. Daily activities include a morning meeting, music and arts, craft and sensory projects, math and science activities, lunch, and exploring the environment, including engaging with local marine biology and coastal ecology. The program is modeled on European and emerging American forest school preschool models and spends 100% of its time outdoors, using various open nature areas as its classroom.
• Ages: 2–7 years old
• Schedule: School runs September–May, with a morning session from 9 am–1 pm and an extended day option until 4 pm; summer camp runs June–August on a week-to-week basis
• Price: Tuition for the school year is based on a monthly rate and includes all closures based on holidays and breaks
Neptune Nature School was founded in 2017, and its name is a homage to the original name of Alameda’s Crab Cove, Neptune Beach. Teachers at Neptune Nature School are described as passionate, experienced, and eager to share their knowledge and experience with their students. The school calendar clearly outlines closures, which keep teachers paid and mentally healthy. Summer camp is open to participation from the greater community, and visitors are always welcome to the school.
