About
Ozzy's Music Academy offers vacation camps, afterschool programming for children and youth, and both one-on-one and group music lessons. The program includes private lessons, rock bands, mentorship, rehearsal space, open mics, jam sessions, community music events, and band coaching for kids through adults. Ozzy’s Music Academy is led by Ozzy (Joseph Osborne), who is described as a musician, music educator, and philanthropist and the director of Alameda Adaptive Arts and a supporter of the Trinity Troubadours ukulele group. He studied Education and Music and Humanities at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska; completed an undergraduate degree with an emphasis in Educational Psychology and K-12 Music at Wayne State Teachers College; and earned a Master’s Degree in Music, Curriculum, Musicianship, Musicology and Pedagogy at Holy Names University in Oakland. His teaching experience includes private instruction and work in charter and public schools ranging from Silicon Valley to Flatland Oakland, and he plays brass, woodwinds, the trap-set, and performs as a local vocal jazz artist. He also plays in multiple Bay Area bands and works on recording projects as a vocalist, horn player, keyboardist, accordion player, and bassist.
The program describes itself as a Community Music Center with the supportive structures of a music classroom combined with the technology and excitement of a performance space and recording studio. It highlights a focus on mindful musicianship, an emphasis on making the world sound more beautiful, and serving individuals and families of all ages and skill levels, with a specialization in vacation camps and afterschool programming for children and youth and one-on-one lessons for learners of all ages. Alameda Adaptive Arts, directed by Ozzy, is described as a performance group for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities that performs at local and regional music festivals and events, including with Benevolent Band Alameda at Kiwanis Christmas, the Alameda Christmas Tree Lighting, and on Thompson Avenue for Christmastree Lane. The Trinity Troubadours are described as a ukulele group aimed at developing musicianship through technique and repertoire, meeting most Thursday afternoons at 1pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alameda.
