About

Job Corps is a free, residential career training and education program where students take part in career exploration, academic classes, and hands-on training in fields like manufacturing, health care, technology, and construction. The program also offers training in wildland firefighting, urban forestry, and forestry conservation. Job Corps has 24 Civilian Conservation Centers operated by the U.S. Forest Service that encourage students to learn in nature and work to sustain and improve the land they live on.

For over 60 years, Job Corps has prepared young people for careers in the nation’s fastest-growing industries. According to its mission statement, Job Corps prepares students for lifelong careers in the industries that power America by offering hands-on training in fields like manufacturing, health care, technology, and construction. The program has more than 120 campuses nationwide, offers training in 10 in-demand industries and over 100 training areas, and includes residential and nonresidential living options. Job Corps states that it is more than a career training program, providing free housing, nutritious meals, basic medical care, a living allowance, a supportive community, and access to graduate resources at no cost to participants. At the 24 Civilian Conservation Centers, which are operated by the U.S. Forest Service, students are encouraged to learn in nature and work to sustain and improve the land they live on.
