About
Mathnasium of Albany-Berkeley offers math-only instruction that includes homework help, test prep, and SAT® & ACT® test prep. Students work with tutors in a supportive group environment using personalized learning plans based on a diagnostic assessment of each student’s skill level, challenges, and academic goals.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
Mathnasium of Albany-Berkeley uses the Mathnasium Method™, a proprietary teaching approach that blends mental, verbal, visual, tactile, and written techniques. All students begin with a diagnostic assessment that identifies what they already know and what they still need to learn, and homework help is included as part of sessions. Live, online sessions are taught by the same instructors using the same curriculum as in-center. The program works with students of all skill levels in grades 1–12 and is part of Mathnasium, which has over 1,100 locations worldwide and reports 1.5 million student lives impacted to date.
The mission of Mathnasium of Albany-Berkeley is to teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it, with the belief that math can change their lives and they can change the world. The leadership team includes Center Director Jesse Stephens, Owner Andre Bertrand, Administrative Assistant Christie Cameron, and Instructors Sabine Scott, Zoe Maderas, Tiegan Nagafuji, and Rojina Refai. Staff credentials include degrees and studies in Molecular Biology, Electrical Engineering, Humanities, and advanced mathematics, as well as high school and college students serving as instructors.
Mathnasium of Albany-Berkeley serves students from Albany, Berkeley, Kensington, and El Cerrito, including those who attend Ocean View Elementary, Cornell Elementary, Marin Elementary, and Albany Middle School in both public and private school communities. Parent testimonials describe children who were initially reluctant and later enjoyed attending, as well as reports of improved understanding of math concepts, excitement about doing math, and one parent noting a child earning a first “A” on a report card.
