The Fried Music Summer Practice Intensive Program includes guided practice, specialized classes, performance classes, exclusive workshops, competition preparation, community engagement performances and concerts, and a final concert followed by a pizza party. Each session also includes technique classes and workshops led by artist faculty and/or guest artists, as well as regularly scheduled concerts in the performance space booked through the summer intensive. For community engagement concerts, students are recommended to have a piece they have been working on previously to perform.
• Ages: 9–18 years old
• Schedule: 2-week (12-day) summer program sessions, Mondays to Saturdays from 10:00am to 3:30pm
The program’s leadership team includes Co-Founder and Chair of Strings and Adult Learning Ben Fried, Co-Founder and Chair of Piano and Chamber Music Connie Kim-Sheng Fried, and Operations Assistant Maya Greenberg. Faculty studied at top conservatories around the world and worked with preeminent pedagogues in music, and they focus on continuing their teachers’ legacy by imparting what they describe as timeless wisdom to students. The program’s stated mission is to teach the intrinsic value of music and to use a passion for music as the catalyst for students’ development from student to artist.
Community engagement performances are included in each session, and community engagement concerts are scheduled, for which students receive volunteer hours. The performance space used for the intensive has two grand pianos, including a new Shigeru Kawai, and houses regular student, faculty, and guest concerts and events.
One parent, Sophia, states that she has two daughters at Fried Music and is impressed with how much they have learned in two years and notes a great sense of family.
