About
Jiu Jitsu and Dreams offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu through kids Jiu Jitsu classes, adults Jiu Jitsu classes, no gi classes, private lessons, and classes and seminars. The program also participates in tournaments and places a particular emphasis on no-gi grappling and unorthodox positions like the rubber guard and the lockdown.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Hours by appointment; families are asked to check the class schedules for available times.
The program’s core mission is to champion physical fitness, cultivate mental resilience, and instill profound self-discipline in every one of its students. Head coach Chris Vickers is a black belt in both no-gi and gi Jiu-Jitsu, holding a no-gi black belt from Professor Alex Canders of 10th Planet Walnut Creek and a gi black belt from Professor Rich Goodwin of New Creation Wrestling & Jiu Jitsu. He is a practitioner of 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu and has mastered techniques that emphasize no-gi grappling and the use of positions such as the rubber guard and the lockdown, and he is described as a formidable competitor, a skilled instructor, and committed to teaching and mentoring others. Additional leadership and coaching are provided by Coach Albert and Coach Andre. Jiu Jitsu and Dreams is described as a cornerstone of the Antioch martial arts scene and a place where individuals from the local community and beyond can master Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Professor Chris, as a native of Pittsburg and Antioch, is dedicated to bringing a growing jiu jitsu community together and takes pride in his hometown. For no gi classes, students are instructed to wear a close fitting shirt or rashguard and spats, leggings, or shorts without pockets, to remove jewelry and piercings, to maintain clean hygiene with trimmed nails, and the use of a mouth guard is recommended for both kids and adults.
