About

Village Playgarden Summer Camp offers immersive outdoor play, imaginative play, arts and crafts, and nature exploration. The program includes a weekly trip to the nearby LA Arboretum. Children also have regular outdoor play as part of the daily rhythm.

• Ages: 2–12 years old
• Schedule: Summer school for ten weeks June to August; school year program runs September through May from 8:30 to 3:30 with 3-day, 4-day, and 5-day weekly options

Village Playgarden Summer Camp takes place at the Village Playgarden childcare center. The program operates under Village Playgarden childcare center license #198021679. Children bring their own lunches, and a Healthy Food program provides morning and afternoon light meals that are organic, vegetarian, prepared from scratch, and based on whole foods, with the ability to accommodate most allergies and food sensitivities.

Village Playgarden offers nature-based programs for ages 2–12 and has 18 years of experience serving hundreds of children since opening in 2008. The leadership team includes co-founder and lead teacher Kikanza Ramsey-Ray and co-founder Geoff Ramsey-Ray. Loving lead teachers have decades of experience and years working at Village Playgarden, and the faculty and staff form a culturally and racially diverse community of professionals committed to the whole well-being of young children and their families. Faculty engage in regular professional development and the study of child and human development, including Waldorf early childhood pedagogy, nonviolent and compassionate communication, relationship-based community building, and deep connection with the natural world.

The mission of Village Playgarden is to be an intentional community that supports families seeking a place where children can play, create, explore, and engage their imaginations. The program curates a developmentally appropriate, child-centered environment based on immersive relationships with the natural world, daily and seasonal rhythms, and community building. The ethos of Village Playgarden is rooted in principles of diversity, justice, equity, and inclusivity, with a focus on providing a sanctuary of acknowledgement and inclusion where children can be seen and welcomed in their full cultural selves. The philosophy is rooted in love for children, community, the earth, and the possibility of a healthy, peaceful world.

Village Playgarden maintains an active parent community and seasonal events. The community involvement includes the Growing Hope Through Nature initiative, which focuses on expanding nature-based education rooted in inclusivity and sustainable living. The program also offers highly rated parent education classes and emphasizes diversity and needs-based tuition support.
