Rock Climbing Camp – Menlo Park

Rock Climbing Summer Camp – Menlo Park focuses on climbing skills including climbing, bouldering, belaying, rappelling, and proper spotting. Campers practice knot tying and climbing commands while learning climbing safety and ethics, hazard identification, and techniques for footwork and body positioning. They also work with equipment setup, traditional gear placement, and identifying natural anchors, and get comfortable using carabiners, stoppers, camalots, and belay devices.

Each session runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with extended care available from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Campers are grouped by grade range into 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders, and there are no prerequisite skills or experience needed for rock climbing campers. Transportation is provided to and from recreation areas, and campers use top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.

Instructors are all 18 and older and have serious safety and skills training, and are described as insatiable outdoors experts who love adventuring and working with kids. The program is led by founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states a mission that kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking, and the camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which includes a free next camp if stated promises are not met.
