Each session runs for one week, Monday through Friday, with camp hours from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM and extended care available from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Avid4 Adventure provides access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, and transportation is provided to and from recreation areas. Campers are grouped by grade range, with 2nd–4th graders and 5th–7th graders receiving individualized support.
Instructors are described as highly trained, all 18 and older, with serious safety and skills training, and Avid4 Adventure hires a seasoned team of adventurers and educators. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states that every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved, how to prevent them, and how to respond if something goes wrong, and that campers learn to take calculated, well-communicated risks and become more thoughtful, responsible risk takers and problem solvers.
Avid4 Adventure’s mission states that it was born out of a desire to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to ensure the future caretaking of the planet, with a belief in the transformative power of the outdoors and a goal of setting kids on a trajectory of lifelong outdoor adventure and stewardship. They state that they teach campers solid skills, including how to use sound judgment and problem-solving in all aspects of their lives. The organization notes that its programs evolve as campers grow, from age 3 to 17, and that it is committed to paying educators a fair wage.
The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, highly trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and states that if Avid4 Adventure does not meet its stated promises, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free. Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp, its summer camps are accredited by the American Camp Association, it has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps, and it operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service as an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Parent testimonials describe this as a favorite camp where a child who had never done the activities before came to enjoy stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, and biking, and learned to ride a bike without training wheels during camp. Other testimonials mention mature, responsible staff who are excited to share their passion with children, and kids who talk about camp well after it ends and look forward to returning.
