About
The cooking program takes place within a broader schedule that includes Food Offering, Alms Offering, Intermediate Meditation & Buddhist Talk, a Shared Memorial Ceremony, Peace Point Meditation, and Activities and Education for Kids. Activities and Education for Kids include activities that let children express their creativity and connect with their inner selves while also learning about simple mindfulness practices. The program is part of a setting that also offers meditation classes, retreats, and workshops exploring various ways to incorporate mindfulness and Buddhist teachings in daily life.
• Schedule: Food Offering every day from 10am–11am; Alms Offering on Saturdays from 10:30am–11:30am; Intermediate Meditation & Buddhist Talk every second Sunday from 12:30pm–2:30pm; Shared Memorial Ceremony on the full moon day each month from 10am–11am; Activities and Education for Kids every second Saturday of the month from 12:30pm–2:30pm
For more than three decades, the Dhammakaya Meditation Center California and Dhammakaya International Meditation Center have welcomed people of all backgrounds to find inner peace and purpose through meditation. Peace Point Meditation offers weekly meditation classes and practical Buddhist wisdom that can be applied to everyday life, and the centers also offer activities for kids. Classes are taught by experienced meditation teachers who have been trained in Dhammakaya meditation, and the centers are led by Buddhist monastics who follow a strict code of conduct and a life of simplicity, discipline, and service, supported by a team of lay disciples who organize ceremonies, meal services, youth activities, volunteer coordination, and administrative work. The Dhammakaya International Meditation Center operates as a branch of Wat Phra Dhammakaya in Thailand and is the spiritual heart of the Dhammakaya Foundation in the United States.
The center began in 1988 as a close-knit spiritual community of Buddhist devotees who gathered weekly to meditate together at a member’s home and has grown into a Thai Buddhist temple serving the San Gabriel Valley and greater Los Angeles community. A new Dhammakaya Meditation Hall is being built that can accommodate up to 300 people and will support meditation events, Buddhist ceremonies, and other activities for the benefit of both the local and global community. The dress code for activities asks participants to wear clothing that covers the shoulders, chest, midsection, stomach, and knees, and to avoid see-through and tight-fitting clothing, shorts, sleeveless tanks, tank tops, and revealing or low-cut tops.
