About

The Gifted & Talented (GATE) Program is part of the Instructional Services department in the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District. The district serves pupils from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and has a growing STEM/STEAM program, which is part of the broader instructional context for the GATE Program.

The Gifted & Talented (GATE) Program operates within a district that was established in 1875 and uses the motto “Excellence in Education.” The Instructional Services leadership team includes Assistant Superintendent Trina Lovio and Administrative Secretary Senior Laura Klugow. The district’s mission is to provide quality learning opportunities for every student by supporting teachers through mentoring and high quality appropriate professional development. The district states that education is a partnership between the school, family and the community. Schools in the district have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools and have received the 2022 California Pivotal Practice Award, California Schools to Watch, and Positive Behavior Intervention Schools designations. The NAMM Foundation has recognized the district for the efforts of teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who are making music part of a well-rounded education for every child in the district.
