The Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) was founded in 1963 by Latino civil rights leader and social entrepreneur Dionicio Morales. MAOF’s mission is to provide for the socio-economic betterment of the greater Latino community of California through early childhood education and family services, job training, and senior lifestyle development. Since its founding in Los Angeles in 1963, MAOF has grown to be described as one of the largest nonprofits in California, serving over 125,000 people per year across Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange, San Diego, Ventura, Kern, and Monterey counties and maintaining an operating budget of over $100 million annually.
MAOF uses a multi-generational approach to uplift the whole family and provides social services across four pillars: early child education services, senior services, community development services, and community partnership services. In Monterey County, MAOF has seven Early Care Centers, three of which provide infant care from 6 weeks to entering kindergarten and the remaining are licensed for children 2–5 years old, primarily serving families that work in the agricultural industry. MAOF values education with an emphasis on early education and commitment to continuing education, high ethical standards and organizational excellence, innovation through creativity and unique programs, and advocacy based on research and knowledge. MAOF acts with honesty and accountability and recognizes and values strong community partnerships through an engaged Board of Directors and the support of civic and corporate leaders.
