About

Albany-Berkeley Soccer Club offers recreational U6–U10 soccer, competitive U9–U19 soccer through its Lightning Program, and Travel Rec U11–U19 soccer. The club also runs First Touch Academy, a Girls Skills Clinic, soccer camps during the summer, spring, and select school holidays, a winter futsal program, and both a Referee program and Junior Referee program.

• Ages: 3–18 years old

The Lightning Program is a year-round competitive environment for players ages 8–18. Travel Rec Fall and Spring season teams compete in the Jack London Youth Soccer League, and Travel Rec Winter teams compete in-house in the Albany-Berkeley Soccer League. First Touch Academy offers Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer programs, and camps are open to boys and girls of all skill levels ages 4–18 years. The winter futsal program provides players the opportunity to sharpen foot skills, improve game decision-making ability, and stay fit during the off-season.

The leadership team includes an Executive Director and Director of Coaching (DOC) named Toney, a Travel Program Manager (Competitive & Rec-U11+) named Michael, a Recreation U4–U10 Co-Registrar named Erin, and a Project Manager named Priscila.

Parent and family feedback includes comments from Simon, a former ABSC parent, who described his two sons being involved since age 5 and participating as players, referees, and then coaches. A.D., a new ABSC parent, described a 10-year-old with no prior organized sports experience who attended a 1.5-hour Girls Skills Clinic and then looked forward to the next clinic and first game. Julio, a long-time ABSC parent, described over a decade of involvement, including time as a volunteer coach and as a parent of a grassroots referee, and mentioned moments such as a U7 final where both teams celebrated together. Another parent, Mitthai C., described ABSC futsal as a highlight for the kids on a team, noting that the skills coaches, courts, and environment were excellent and that the kids looked forward to the next winter session.
