About
Aguacate Music Kids: Bilingual and Spanish Family Classes offers music and movement classes where children and their caregivers sing, dance, and play instruments together. The program includes both bilingual and Spanish family music classes.
• Ages: 0–6 years old
• Schedule: Spring 2026 session from April to June, with a bilingual family music class on Tuesdays from April 7 to June 9, 10:15–11:00 AM
• Price: The price of each vendor spot for the Tianguis 2026 event is $125.
Classes are led by teacher Anna-Maria Violich-Olivier. Anna-Maria and Natalia are both bilingual teachers and music and movement specialists with 20 years of experience in early childhood public and private education, hold Bilingual California State teaching credentials (BCLAD), and have Masters degrees in Education. In bilingual family music classes, songs are in Spanish and instructions are given in both Spanish and English, and no Spanish is required for participation. In Spanish classes, songs and instructions are entirely in Spanish, and caregivers participate alongside their children. The classes are described as fun, engaging bilingual and Spanish music and movement classes for babies, toddlers, and children up to age 6, along with their caregivers, and are designed to support early development and help children naturally absorb two languages.
La Peña Cultural Center was established in Berkeley, California in 1975. It was founded as a “peña,” a place offering music, food, and political support to cultures of resistance in South America in the 1960s–70s, and it stands as the last such “peña” still in existence today. Rooted in the Latin American and Caribbean diaspora, La Peña Cultural Center collaborates with and unites communities by preserving and celebrating cultural traditions, producing creative new works, and nurturing global grassroots social justice movements with artists, activists, and allies. It has been a central site for Latinx, Caribbean, and Indigenous diasporic communities of the Bay Area to preserve and celebrate cultural traditions, present new interdisciplinary creative works, and nurture grassroots social justice movements with artists, activists, and allies. La Peña presents concerts, community gatherings, panel discussions, theatre performances, film screenings, art exhibits, and fundraisers, and holds space for daily classes and workshops for children and adults in various musical and performance traditions.
