About
California Field Hockey Camps & Clinics offers activities that include the Tiny Tourney 6v6 field hockey play day, the CAL 6v6 Clinic, SAN DIEGO PLAYER & GOALIE CLINICS, the FALL ID CLINIC, and the CAL Goalie Clinic. The Tiny Tourney uses a 6v6 format with no goalkeeper necessary, is open to boys and girls of all abilities, and welcomes goalkeepers but does not require them. California Field Hockey Camps & Clinics are open to any and all entrants, limited only by space and age, and are described as “More Than Just a Camp!” with camp and clinics that promote learning new skills, meeting new friends, and having fun.

• Schedule: Tiny Tourney on May 9, 2026 from 10:00am–2:00pm; CAL 6v6 Clinic from March 6–8, 2026
• Price: Team Registration: $225
For the Tiny Tourney, ages U12, U10, and U8 are offered, and each age group is limited to 6 teams, with a wait list maintained to maximize participation. Only team sign-ups are accepted for the Tiny Tourney, and individual players who want to join a team are directed to check the listed club links. Tiny Tourney uses a 6v6 format, umpires are provided, and spectator guidelines include portable bathrooms available at the field, no tents or coolers, and no soccer cleats. California Field Hockey Camps & Clinics notes that space is limited and registration is first come, first served. Recommended items to bring include a hockey stick, shin guards, mouth guards, turf shoes or sneakers (no soccer cleats), a water bottle, and snacks.
Shellie Onstead is the Director and Head Coach of California Field Hockey Camp and the Head Coach at U.C. Berkeley. Onstead has coached at Cal since 1983 and has been the head coach since 1995, is a five-time Nor Pac Conference Coach of the Year, and has guided the Bears to a consistent Top 20 ranking and 8 NCAA appearances. Onstead has held numerous coaching positions at the national and international level and, since 1996, has served as the USA Junior National Team coach on numerous occasions for both the men and women. In 1999, Onstead was honored as U.S.A. Field Hockey National Coach of the Year. In 2009, Onstead led the women’s U17 National Team to qualify for the Youth Pan Am Championship in Uruguay in 2010, where the team took bronze, and later served as assistant coach for the U21 team that qualified for the Junior World Cup in 2012. Onstead was also an assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team that competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and is a former U.S.A. National Field Hockey Team player.
The program also shares information about clubs for U12, U10, U8, and U6 teams, including California, Stanford Lightning Youth Field Hockey, East Bay Field Hockey, USA Lions San Francisco Youth FHC, Stryker FHC, and Wisconsin Lift Field Hockey.
