About

Starlings Berkeley Volleyball is a club volleyball program where players practice and compete in volleyball. The program uses required player forms, including registration, a JVA waiver, and a Starlings USA waiver, and requires two player packs with long sleeve jerseys in white and pink.

• Schedule: The 2025–2026 club season starts January 2026 for all ages, with practices tentatively beginning January 5, 2025, and the club season ending May 2025 for players 13 years old and below and June 2025 for players 14 years old and above. All teams practice on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30pm and on Sunday afternoons from 1–5pm, with specific times to be announced for different age groups, and additional practices could be added for 15s teams and older.
• Price: 2026 season club fees per player are due at a parent meeting (date to be announced), with additional costs for uniforms, travel, and tournament fees, and no refunds. Zelle to [email protected] is the preferred payment method with no fee, and checks are accepted payable to Starlings Volleyball Berkeley. Players with financial need can request full or partial assistance, and assistance with applying for the Players Fund is available.

Starlings Berkeley Volleyball is led by Starlings Berkeley Director Kim Hoglund, with coaches listed as Coach Alex, Coach Portia, Coach Marilu, Coach Finley, and Coach Bella. The club’s stated goal is to inspire student-athletes to reach their full potential on the volleyball court, in the classroom, and in the community, and Starlings Berkeley serves underrepresented communities. Starlings Volleyball, USA began in 1996 with a single team at Lincoln High School in San Diego, California, and has programs in over 70 cities and Native American reservations nationwide. Starlings Volleyball, USA is described as the nation’s largest junior volleyball club, serving more than 3,000 girls in more than 75 clubs, and Starlings dues, if any, are a fraction of most junior club costs, with the stated goal that no girl is turned away because of inability to pay.

Starlings Volleyball, USA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, and Starlings Volleyball USA, Inc. is an IRS-registered 501(c)3 charitable nonprofit organization, with U.S.-based donations described as tax-deductible. Players with financial need can request full or partial assistance with club dues through Starlings Nationals, and the program notes that two player packs with long sleeve jerseys in white and pink are required. The club is assigned to the EAGLE district in the Northern California Volleyball Association.

One student testimonial states that “Starlings isn't just about volleyball. It teaches us how to set goals and how to get across the bumps in the road we're all maneuvering along — the road to success,” from Starling Lili Sun, 10th grade. Another testimonial from Deitre Collins-Parker, head women’s coach at San Diego State University and starter on the 1988 U.S. Olympic volleyball team, describes Starlings as giving young athletes a chance to continue playing and competing after the high school season and notes that San Diego State coaches have gone to Starlings tournaments to recruit and have seen many talented athletes.
