UpSwing Aerial Dance Company Classes and Workshops offers aerial dance classes that specialize in rope and harness, low flying trapeze (Motivity Trapeze), aerial slings, bungees, tissu, and other flying apparatuses. Classes and workshops also include improvisation as part of the aerial dance experience. All classes, workshops, and most performances are held under the direction of Artistic Director Cherie Carson and UpSwing Aerial Dance Company.
• Schedule: Studio class times include options on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday afternoons and evenings.
Since 2005, UpSwing Aerial Dance Company has been a destination for dancers and aerialists. UpSwing is a contemporary aerial dance company that features the repertory of Artistic Director Cherie Carson and currently has 5 performing dancers and aerialists in the company. The company’s mission is to inspire and share its love of original aerial dance and to show that through aerial dance it can reveal human imagination, relationships with others, and one’s inner self. Creative expression and safety are stated as the two core values in its classes and performances.
UpSwing has been presented nationally in cities including Atlanta, New York, Seattle, Houston, and San Francisco, and teaches workshops across the US in cities such as Atlanta, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Seattle, and Santa Barbara. UpSwing offers chances for students to take classes from the company as well as from nationally recognized choreographers and teachers. Its classes and performances have received recognition including SF Weekly’s “Best of the Bay of 2006” with the quote “Best Way to Learn How to Fly,” being named one of TheCultureTrip.com’s “Top 5 exclusive classes to take This Summer 2015,” being featured in “Your 2019 Workout Horoscope: The Best New Exercises to Try in the Bay Area,” and being listed in the October 2019 issue of Diablo Magazine as one of five events not to miss.
As of 4/1/24, UpSwing Aerial Dance Company no longer requires that all students continue to wear masks, and students may choose to wear masks if they wish. Hand sanitizer is offered for all who enter the studio.
