West Berkeley Fencing Club was founded in 2012. Management and staff are certified coaches. The founder is Mark Headley, and staff members include Mark Headley, George Platt, Elizabeth Earls, Doug Nichols, and Cory Price. The club is a nonprofit organization guided by a volunteer board and supported by experienced coaches, and it is part of the West Berkeley Foundation for Community, a 501(c)3 organization. The mission of the West Berkeley Fencing Club is to make the sport of fencing accessible and inclusive for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels in a community-driven environment. The club is also home to the West Coast Fencing Archive and offers cultural and community events in addition to fencing instruction and practice. The environment is described as inclusive and positive for fencers of all levels and abilities, where beginner and experienced fencers can fence, train, and learn.
