The mission of Youth Development Programs is to Empower Youth, Advance Health, and Strengthen Communities. For more than 100 years, the organization behind these programs has been bringing families, neighbors, and friends together in a safe and fun environment to learn, play, and grow. It serves over 68,000 people across Alameda, Contra Costa, and YOLO counties through five fitness centers and more than 20 Early Learning Centers, and it offers full-day, year-round care for eligible families with children ages 0–5. Scholarship money is awarded to gym memberships, Youth & Government programs, swim lessons, youth sports, and camperships, with campership dollars providing financial assistance so more children can experience overnight summer camp. The programs use a mobile app that allows families to access their YMCA account, schedules, and workouts. The organization partners with school districts across the East Bay to provide dynamic and engaging programming and works with qualified contractors, vendors, and service providers to support its branches, early learning centers, and programs across the East Bay.
