About
Brawley Police Youth Programs includes an after-school boxing program, the Brawley Police Youth Soccer Program, and several levels of Police Explorer programs. Youth can take part in boxing, soccer, and activities in the Police Explorers, Junior Explorer, and Pee-wee Explorer programs that involve training, practical experiences, and competition related to law enforcement and civic duties.
• Ages: 10–18 years old
The Police Explorers Program is a hands-on program open to young men and women ages 14–20 who are interested in a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system. The Police Explorers Program offers training, practical experiences, competition, and other activities, and promotes personal growth through character development, respect for the rule of law, physical fitness, good citizenship, and patriotism. The Junior Explorer Program is catered to 12 and 13-year-olds and is described as a pivotal bridge for young people who want to develop skills and knowledge in law enforcement and civic responsibilities, focusing on nurturing well-rounded, community-minded, and physically fit young citizens. The Pee-wee Explorer Program is catered to 10 and 11-year-olds and is the beginning stage to develop skills related to law enforcement, such as discipline, organization, and civic duties, and is designed to introduce children to the importance of being a service to the community and how those skills can lead to a career in law enforcement. The Pee-wee Explorer Program focuses on discipline, nutrition and fitness goals, academics, and the love for learning.
The Brawley Police Youth Soccer Program is designed to model basic soccer skills while incorporating tools and resources to succeed in soccer, school, and life. This soccer program provides a space for youth to exercise their body and mind through soccer, enhances and models grace, dignity, and composure, and promotes the principle that everyone is worthy of being treated with respect and dignity and to refrain from taunting and any act that demeans, disrespects, or threatens anyone. The soccer program also focuses on discipline and developing life goals while keeping up with academics.
Participating in the after-school boxing program is described as providing many benefits for youth, especially “at-risk” youth. The boxing activities are part of the broader Brawley Police Youth Programs offerings.
The Junior Explorer Program stands as a pivotal bridge in the journey of young individuals aspiring to develop skills and knowledge in law enforcement and civic responsibilities, and it is uniquely designed to build upon the foundations laid in the earlier Pee-wee Explorer Program while setting the stage for the more advanced Explorer Program for ages 14–20. At its core, the Junior Explorer Program is described as an embodiment of commitment to nurturing well-rounded, community-minded, and physically fit young citizens, ready to take on greater responsibilities and challenges.
Advisor Sergeant M. Cano is listed as part of the leadership for these programs. Brawley Police Explorers, along with Advisor Sergeant M. Cano, contributed to the opening ceremony of the NBA game between the LA Clippers and the Detroit Pistons on February 10, 2024. By 1908, Brawley was officially incorporated.
