About

The State Preschool Program is a three-hour daily program that focuses on school readiness skills and strengthening children's learning. It uses a play-oriented curriculum based on an integrated philosophy where respect for the child, positive guidance, and the development of self-esteem are important values. Early educational activities are planned based on the emerging skills of each child.

• Schedule: Monday through Friday, with three-hour sessions offered from 8:00 am–11:00 am and 12:30 pm–3:30 pm

The program is prepared and implemented by trained and caring teachers. Its mission states that it provides a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social-emotional, cognitive, and creative development of young children, and that every child is treated as a unique individual with kindness, love, and respect. The mission also affirms each child's need to grow and develop at their own pace and states that staff will care for each child with respect and support for their primary language and culture. The program includes opportunities for presentations, trainings, parent-teacher conferences, and encourages parents to participate in the preschool program. The leadership team includes J. Todd Finnell, Ed.D., County Superintendent of Schools; Claudia Montano, Administrator of Student Services in the Student Services Division and Title IX/Cal. Code of Regs. Title 5 Compliance Officer for Students; and Martha Garcia, Senior Director of Human Resources and Title IX/Cal. Code of Regs. Title 5 Compliance Officer for Employees. The program is involved in partnering and collaborating with other agencies to strengthen its impact in areas of common purpose.
