Be Exceptional Programs offers recreational classes, fitness classes, dance classes, and drama classes, along with social events such as a Winter Ball and Halloween Dance. The program also includes sports and activity options like T-Ball, Soccer, Basketball, Cheerleading Competition, Special Olympics Basketball, a Learn with Me Class, and a Disney Musical Theater Workshop.

• Price: Adults can come to Be Exceptional for an hour of fitness, dance, or drama classes for a low flat rate.
Be Exceptional is an East Bay based non-profit organization with a mission to provide recreational classes and social events for people facing developmental, physical, and emotional challenges. It is an East Bay based non-profit organization serving East Contra Costa County and handling Biddy Sports’ activities. Biddy Sports is a youth sports program for 4–8 year olds that began in 1993 serving East Contra Costa County, and Be Exceptional is now handling Biddy Sports’ activities, which include T-Ball, Soccer, and Basketball, and will continue Biddy’s legacy as it is. Be Exceptional Programs is now a Regional Center service provider for Social Recreation classes.
The program uses a combination of voluntary staff who have experience working with people with disabilities and youth who have shown they care about the people in the program. The “buddy” system provides volunteers and participants the opportunity to grow together and promotes a family-like environment that is supportive of everyone involved in the program. Lynda Green, the founder of Be Exceptional, has been teaching dance for over 30 years in various settings and has been working with people with special needs in different capacities for 25 years. Lynda began leading recreational classes for individuals with exceptional needs out of her family’s dance studio in Antioch, California 15 years ago.
