Dance for Kids was established in 1989, and Brentwood Gardens has been its home since 1997. In 1999, Karen Chase, a Broadway dancer, actress and one of the original “Laker Girls,” acquired Dance for Kids and ran the studio for 23 years before selling it to her daughter, Taryn Greenman, a dance major with 15 years of experience in business. Dance for Kids cultivates a team of professional dance instructors with degrees from top dance universities and arts academies, many of whom have studied child development, music theory and education, and have trained and performed with dance companies around the world. The studios have full length mirrors, viewing windows, great sound systems and professional sprung marley floors, and have recently been renovated and modernized.
Dance for Kids and Brentwood Academy of Dance state that they are more than just a dance studio and describe themselves as a community where children grow with confidence, creativity and compassion, from a baby’s first parent and me class to a graduating senior’s final bow. Their stated commitment is to inspire joy through movement and to guide every dancer to feel seen, valued and empowered on stage and in life. They have been honored by Dance Magazine as a top 100 dance studio in the nation and were recently voted “Best Children’s Program in Brentwood.” Brentwood Academy of Dance is home to an award winning competition team, and its performance and competition teams regularly receive Platinum medal awards in competitions and have been entertaining audiences and competing across Southern California.
Dance for Kids and Brentwood Academy of Dance have been proudly serving the community since 1989 and serve families from Beverly Hills, Westwood, West LA, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Culver City, Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey, Bel Air, Venice, and Mar Vista. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade can join competition and performance teams, and combo classes are available for children ages 3 to 6. Classes start at age 2 with Mommy & Me and continue through high school, and drop-in Mommy & Me classes are offered 4 days a week. Summer registration is available.
One parent reports taking a 4-year-old child to Dance for Kids for 2 years, says the child looks forward to it every week and has never had a class they did not love, and describes the teachers as sweet, patient and great with kids, with other parents being friendly and relaxed.
