About
Galaxy Kids Code Club offers computer programming (coding), engineering, and technology education programs where kids take part in after-school coding classes, summer camps, Jr Code Camp, and Code Club. The program includes specific events and activities such as a Free Jr. Code Club Preview Day, a Free Code Club Intro Class, Parents’ Night Off, Spring Break Camps, and a Smash Bros Youth Tournament, along with tech literacy programs. After-school coding classes use a hands-on, project-based approach in small class settings where students create art, games, and animations, and families can choose in person or virtual options.
• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: Parents’ Night Off for ages 6–13 on the first Friday of every month; Spring Break Camps for ages 5–14 from March 16 to April 2; Smash Bros Youth Tournament for ages 6–17 on March 29 at 11:00 am
Galaxy Kids Code Club offers a Free Jr. Code Club Preview Day for ages 5–7 and a free introductory coding class (Code Club) for ages 8–16 years old, and programs are open to beginners, experienced coders, and everyone in between. The program states that students learn to use code to solve problems and bring their imaginations to life and that it aims to inspire creativity and empower kids to succeed in a technology driven future. Galaxy Kids Code Club was created out of a drive to inspire and support all children, especially young girls and underrepresented minorities, to pursue an education in computer science, and it is on a mission to bridge the tech equity gap by ensuring equitable access to technology, promoting the use of technology to transform learning, and championing digital literacy education. The founder and CEO, Lucretia McCovy Shaw, studied engineering at Stanford University, earned a degree in Computer Systems Engineering, and worked for more than 16 years in various technical roles in the financial services industry; she is a member of the Computer Science Teachers Association, the California School-Age Consortium, and the National After-School Association. Lucretia serves on the Brentwood Chamber Board of Directors and as an advisor to the Antioch Youth Services and Recreational Services Committee. One parent testimonial states, “Great teacher! Learning computer programming with Lucretia is lots of fun!” from Chris S. The Galaxy Kids Shop connected with the program offers a variety of STEM toys, games, LEGOs, novelty t-shirts, and fun tech gadgets.
