About

Unlimited Possibilities Martial Arts offers Martial Arts and Kung Fu classes. The program offers classes that are designed to accommodate all ages and abilities, including individuals with disabilities.

• Schedule: Classes are offered in a group setting, with all services geared toward individual learning in that group setting.

UPMA began in 2011 through a program at United Cerebral Palsy in Irvine. The program’s stated purpose is to create an inclusive environment where individuals of all abilities can learn Martial Arts and to create social gatherings and opportunities for students and families to interact. The lead instructor, Kristen Davidson, is listed as the UP-MA Lead Instructor, and Coach Kristen has dedicated many years of experience to working with children and teens with disabilities. The program works with children and teens with disabilities, including autism, ASD, visual and hearing impairments, ADHD, and anxiety. Unlimited Possibilities Martial Arts offers a big patio with plenty of seating outdoors with a big TV so parents can still watch their child.

During COVID, temperature checks are administered at the door, each student receives hand sanitizer upon arrival, and all coaches are in masks and gloves as well as students, if able. Students are directed to a personal spot on the mat to enforce social distancing, and all equipment such as mats, pads, and balls is sanitized before and after each use. In place of sparring during COVID, Kung Fu is taught via different animals, and YouTube videos are sent so students can continue practicing throughout the week.

Parent testimonials describe the coaches as friendly, passionate, patient, professional, and disciplined in teaching Martial Arts. Parents report that their children with autism, ASD, ADHD, visual and hearing impairments, anxiety, and other disabilities attend classes, participate in group activities, and, in one case, joined two tournaments. Multiple parents state that Coach Kristen and her team accommodate different needs and ever-changing moods, spend one-on-one time with each child with support from assistant coaches, and enforce rules in class. Several parents and grandparents state that their children or grandchildren look forward to class, have made friends, and that they feel comfortable with their child’s participation in the program.
