Burlingame Martial Arts offers martial arts education that includes martial arts lessons and self-defense lessons, along with life skills training. The program also includes leadership skills training, team-building workshops, health and wellness workshops, and activities such as advanced acrobatics, climbing, free-running, parkour, and cross-fitting activities. The practice area is over 1700 square feet and was specially designed and built by Master Kwan Jang Nim (KJN) Dong for these types of martial arts and movement training.

Burlingame Martial Arts states that it is dedicated to providing martial arts education and leadership skills training in a safe, positive, and encouraging atmosphere with a commitment to Black Belt Excellence. The school is described in parent testimonials as a family owned business where classes are intimate and hands on. Parents and adult students in the testimonials describe their experiences with discipline, focus, hard work, and a community that feels like an extended family.

The program is led by Master Kwan Jang Nim (KJN) Dong, a 6th Degree Black Belt in the art of Kuk Sool who has been practicing for nearly 30 years under the instruction of Master Sung Jin Suh, Founder of the United Mirae Kuk Sool association. KJN Dong has been educating youth for over 20 years and has trained students of all ages throughout the Bay Area for over two decades. He holds a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and works as a Registered Professional Engineer with experience in business optimization, property management, and land development.

Burlingame Martial Arts, previously located in Millbrae on Rollins Road, opened its doors 10 years ago. KJN Dong has been honored with the Grand Champion Award and received Gold Medals at tournaments across the world between 1999–2019. He has also worked as a counselor and program director in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco to help inner-city youth in the late 1990s and toured with Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Theatre Programs, performing health education shows for over 200,000 students across Northern California. Today, he helps students with college and life planning and performs lectures for Alpha Kappa Psi, a business fraternity where he served on the Chapter Advisory Board.
