Burlingame Martial Arts offers martial arts education that includes martial arts lessons, self-defense lessons, and life skills training. Burlingame Martial Arts states that it is dedicated to providing the highest level of martial arts education and leadership skills training in a safe, positive, and encouraging atmosphere with a commitment to Black Belt Excellence. The school has been open for 10 years, and its head instructor, Master Kwan Jang Nim (KJN) Dong, has trained students of all ages throughout the Bay Area for over two decades. Master KJN Dong is a 6th Degree Black Belt in the art of Kuk Sool and has been practicing for nearly 30 years under the instruction of Master Sung Jin Suh, Founder of the United Mirae Kuk Sool association. He has been educating youth for over 20 years, has worked as a counselor and program director in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco to help inner-city youth in the late 1990s, and toured with Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Theatre Programs, performing health education shows for over 200,000 students across Northern California. He holds a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and works as a Registered Professional Engineer with experience in business optimization, property management, and land development, and he also helps students with college and life planning and gives lectures for Alpha Kappa Psi, where he served on the Chapter Advisory Board.
The training space includes over 1700 square feet of practice area, specially designed and built by Master Dong for martial arts training as well as advanced acrobatics, climbing, free-running, parkour, and cross-fitting activities. Between 1999 and 2019, Master Dong has been honored with the Grand Champion Award and has received Gold Medals at tournaments across the world.
Parent and student testimonials describe the school as a place where families train together, with one parent noting that their daughters started practicing at age 3 and another sharing that their 4-year-old has attended for over a year.
