In 1977, two young Taekwondo black belts opened their first martial arts school in Santa Clara County, and the Campbell location became the first ever school of the West Coast World Martial Arts association. Within the Campbell school, Master Ernie Reyes Sr. has developed 7 national champions, and the first black belts he trained started at this location. The Campbell school serves as one of the flagship locations of West Coast World Martial Arts.
All of the instructors hold years of experience in the world of martial arts. The leadership team includes founding father GGM KJN Ernie Reyes, school owner KJN Margie Reyes, head instructor and West Coast World Action Demo Team Co-Captain KJN Daniel Isozaki, and master instructor KJN Joao Santana. KJN Margie Reyes has been training martial arts for 46 years, KJN Daniel Isozaki has been training for 20 years, and KJN Joao Santana has been training since 1994 and with West Coast World Martial Arts since 2003, and he has been a member of the West Coast World Action Demo Team since 2005.
The stated purpose of West Coast World Martial Arts is to empower students to develop themselves physically, mentally, spiritually and establish an extraordinary character, and teaching is based on the values of Honor, Loyalty, Family, and Bravery. Instructors focus on the growth and development of students inside and out of the martial arts world and provide insight and guidance to assist students on their path towards black belt mastery. Adults & Teens classes offer a comprehensive course of multiple styles of martial arts, and the school incorporates kids night to show students that work and fun balance.
One student described Ernie Reyes’ Campbell school as having large facilities and staff that make mixed martial arts fun and safe, and said they are a third degree black belt who has been training there for 12 years. A parent shared that their daughter is working on her second degree black belt and that they have been going to West Coast Martial Arts for years, with Daniel as her instructor. Another parent mentioned that instructors KJN Daniel, Joao, and Donald are friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable, and that their son started with Ernie Reyes about five years ago and later transferred to the Campbell location. A student reported starting as a white belt and progressing to black belt after many years of hard work, and said they were greeted warmly and almost immediately became part of the family.
