• Price: Youth, chaperones, and music teachers receive a significant discount.
Chamber Music Monterey Bay enriches the cultural life of the community by promoting high-quality chamber music through its concert series and community education programs. Community involvement includes bringing performers to schools and senior living facilities, with visiting ensembles going into K–12 classrooms in Monterey County for interactive music activities and making occasional visits to senior residences for people who cannot attend live performances in Carmel. Outreach locations have included Marina High School Orchestra Class, Carmel Valley Manor Residents, Monterey High School Orchestra Class, Hacienda Carmel, Mount Toro High School Orchestra Class, the Middlebury Institute for International Studies, Youth Music Monterey (YMM), and YOSAL. Chamber Music Monterey Bay was one of only twenty presenting organizations nationwide to participate in the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award (KLRITA) from 2002 to 2012. In its earliest form, the organization was part of an early Carmel music group founded in 1927, and a new organization that would eventually be called Chamber Music Monterey Bay was formed in 1966.
Students and teachers have shared their experiences with the program. Leah, age 16, said, “It really helps students visualize what they could be playing in the future.” Amari, age 17, said, “I love the passion that you can see within the musicianist's body language and how you can feel the engery of positivity in the room while they play. The artists were definately connected with their playing and their love for what they do.” A class teacher, Maria, said, “The musicians were amazing. The quality of their performance was beyond anything my students normally get to hear. They are an excellent inspiration for them.” Alex, age 16, said, “It was a great event and it made me look at music in a different way.” Leslie, age 18, said, “I liked how I was able to listen to music I don't usually listen to. I think these events will encourage kids to play instruments or listen more to that type of genre.” Carolina, age 18, said, “Something that I love about this event is that it make me feel in peace. Also it takes my anxiety away for a while. I was very happy to seen the concert.” DeAngelo, age 17, said, “The music, the people, and I like how engaging they are with the audience.” Emma, age 14, said, “I enjoyed the opportunity to perform and receive constructive criticism on my playing, as it gives me motivation to try harder.”
