Monterey GlassWorks Classes and Workshops

Monterey GlassWorks Classes and Workshops offers hands-on instruction in glass art making for all levels taught by a working artist in a working studio. Students can work with cast glass, kiln-formed glass, stained glass, fused glass, and glassmaking, and may create pieces such as cast sculpture or panels, lighting and homegoods, and a hand-blown chandelier. Additional activities in the space include oil painting and photography.

• Schedule: Introductory classes are taught over 4 weeks in a group setting.

Monterey GlassWorks Classes and Workshops states that introductory classes are designed so that on completion students will feel comfortable making their own work in a home studio or taking advanced workshops. The program also offers workshops for beginners and experienced artists to learn a specific skill or technique in focused sessions, as well as private lessons for designers or artists in other mediums who need specific help completing glass components for their own designs or works. Qualified student or professional artists may rent facilities by the day or apply for permanent residency blocking off the capacity of the studio, and limited spaces are available for visual artists in other mediums. The mission statement for Monterey GlassWorks is, “We're not a gallery. We're not a craft store. We're a place where human artists make creative things.” Monterey GlassWorks is part of Sand City's West End Art District and is a shared industrial studio for working artists on the Monterey Peninsula.
