About

Cazadero Music Camp offers young musicians the chance to play in Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and smaller groups such as piano and guitar, along with participating in an All Camp Choir. Campers rehearse and play outdoors and also spend time enjoying the creek, pool, and campfire, with Orchestra, Concert Band, or Jazz Ensemble rehearsals leading up to a final performance.

• Ages: 9–18 years old
• Schedule: JumpStart in Music is a three day, condensed immersion program.

For over 60 years, Cazadero Music Camp has brought together youth from a broad range of backgrounds and music abilities to immerse themselves in a rich music curriculum, and for more than 65 years it has offered a dynamic summer camp experience. Cazadero Music Camp states that its mission is to inspire a love of music and learning in youth and to provide a nurturing, inspirational environment for young musicians ages 9–18. Cazadero inspires over 1,400 youth each year through its Summer Music Camp and its JumpStart in Music weekend retreat program, which is described as a low-cost, high-impact version of the summer camp that brings Bay Area public school students, their music teachers, and high school mentors together for a three-day condensed immersion program.

Cazadero Music Camp reports that 97% of campers say their playing improved at Caz, and 100% of parents would recommend Caz to a friend. Musicians at camp participate in Orchestra, Concert Band, or Jazz Ensemble, and large ensembles have a new guest conductor each week who introduces challenging, interesting, and diverse repertoire. Led by these guest conductors, campers rehearse two to three times a day for 60–90 minutes to prepare for their final performance, and they work closely with conductors, music faculty, and camp staff through individual mentoring and several hours a day of group instruction.

The camp describes its facilities as beautiful and rustic, with campers sleeping under the stars and spending time outdoors. The program notes that its scholarship program helps hundreds of young musicians with financial need take part each year, and that its curriculum and environment support students of various ability levels in making rapid progress. Cazadero also notes that its unique curriculum produces consistent results year after year and that its Summer Music Camp brings together a diverse and talented student body from across the Bay Area and beyond.
