Gymnastics World was established in 1996 in Reseda, California, opening in June 1996 with 37 students, and the gym moved to its current location in Chatsworth in 2002. The girls competitive team was introduced in 2003, the boys team in 2004, and the 1st Annual GW Championships was held in 2005 as an in-house showcase with medals, trophies, a half-time show, games, music, food, and vendors. On March 14, 2020, Gymnastics World closed due to COVID, the gym was remodeled in May–June 2020, it was flooded on July 19, 2021, and August 27, 2021 marked a new beginning; in 2023 all aspects of the gym were redesigned, and a new website launched in April 2024.

The program’s core philosophy states that it aims to provide an environment that is conducive to the development of extraordinary athletes, that gymnastics is viewed as a tool to grow the young mind and body to prepare boys for the future, and that respect for self and others is described as the cornerstone of what they do. Gymnastics World uses a unique proprietary skill chart progression reward system (star charts) where students receive stars for skills mastered and a certificate and a medal for passing each level, and recreational programs are divided into age groups and ability levels using this system. GW Camps are listed for ages 5–15 years and include gymnastics, games, zipline, and arts and crafts, and no gymnastics experience is necessary for camps or birthday parties. The program offers a VIP birthday party package and gymnastics birthday parties as an alternative to hosting at home. Home school classes are available that can be used to fulfill some or all PE requirements, and private one-on-one classes are offered with rates set by instructors. A trial class with no obligation is available.

Gymnastics World notes 28+ years of experience, 20K+ happy clients, 100+ team members, and that all team members qualified to State Championships. The facility is described as 15k+ square feet, including a 14,000 square foot space that houses professional competitive gymnastics equipment, with bright colors on the walls, reorganized areas and equipment, and space for siblings to hang and do homework. The program serves multiple surrounding areas including Chatsworth and many Los Angeles-area communities.

Gymnastics World was founded by Dr. Freddy Behin. Dr. Behin grew up in Germany, began his professional gymnastics career there, and competed on the Junior National Team with DTB. In 1990 he was recruited to the United States and joined UCLA as a starting gymnast, contributing to UCLA’s NCAA National wins in 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997. He qualified for the World Championships and introduced a new skill that was placed in the Code of Points. After finishing at UCLA in 1999, he entered medical school and received his medical degree in 2003. He has participated in numerous charity surgical trips to third world countries, donating his time and money and helping several hundred patients, including some with life-threatening conditions. He has been involved with Tony Robbins and his organization as a Platinum Partner client and later as one of his Master Coaches, is a published author, and has spoken on numerous stages to organizations.

Parent testimonials describe Gymnastics World as a gymnastics community that gives kids a safe haven, a sense of community, discipline of good sportsmanship, greater self-esteem and self-confidence, and the ability to rise again after falling, and say it is “building champions from inside out, for life, and perhaps for the sport of gymnastics,” according to Lara G. Another parent, Atoussa F., states that the atmosphere is unique among gyms and that the owner, Freddy Behin, has a vision for the future of the gym and his gymnasts that puts kids and their wellbeing first at every turn. A third parent, Diane Q., says her daughter loves training at Gymnastics World, loves her coaches and teammates, and that the parent appreciates the staff and the space for siblings to hang and do homework.
