Mountain Lake Chess Camp was founded in 1992 by International Master Larry Evans to help train his son Cory, a prodigy who later became a US scholastic Chess Champion. The program is in its 33rd year and is described as “Our 33rd Great Year!” The leadership team includes founder International Master Larry Evans and Cory Evans, who later became a US scholastic Chess Champion. Mountain Lake has established after-school chess programs in over 60 public and private schools in the San Diego area. Notable alumni include International Master Craig Hilby, 2022 U.S. Chess Champion International Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana, U.S. 5th Grade Champion International Master Alexander Costello, and Cory Evans, described as a 5-year-old Chess Master.
