Community Youth Center (CYC) is an academic and athletic performance developmental institution that provides local youth ages 3–18 with varied levels of instruction, from beginner to elite, and serves more than 2,000 active members each year. One membership provides access to all athletic and academic programs, and scholarships are available, with financial aid offered to families in need and no child turned away due to finances. CYC programs were founded to address the lack of affordable after-school programs and the growing challenges of at-risk youth, and they are supported by donors and volunteers.

Community Youth Center (CYC) has shaped Olympians, champions, and countless success stories since 1995, and in 1995 a $1 million gift from The Hofmann Family Foundation transformed a small boxing club on Galaxy Court into one of the Bay Area’s leading youth development centers. The staff includes decorated athletes, Olympic alumni, and dedicated educators. The leadership team includes Matt Harrison (executive director), Alexis Diaz (Academic Excellence), Mary Anne Schneider (Little “AE” Program Director), multiple head and assistant coaches across boxing, cheer, dance, football, judo, soccer, strength and conditioning, taekwondo, wrestling, swim, and gymnastics, as well as program directors, customer service staff, and operations staff.

The mission of CYC is to empower local youth by cultivating transferable life skills through athletic and academic performance, with a focus on a safe, structured environment where young people can develop dedication, discipline, desire, and confidence to pursue excellence in every part of life. CYC is described as a unique place where students are part of a diverse culture, where staff seek to meet students where they are in their development, and where students are allowed to grow at their own pace in a safe environment. Programs have grown to serve over 2,000 members annually, producing Olympians, national champions, and academic achievers, and CYC is rooted in Concord and serves youth across the Bay Area through community support, volunteers, and local partnerships.

One testimonial from 2017 CYC alumni Peyton Omania states that CYC was more than a place to train and that it instilled traits such as accountability, strong work ethic, and discipline. Another testimonial from 2015 CYC alumni Kevin Montano describes CYC as a second home and a family, and credits the boxing coaching staff’s support since age 8 as important in his career.
