Community Youth Center (CYC) is an academic and athletic performance developmental institution that serves local youth ages 3–18 with varied levels of instruction, from beginner to elite, regardless of financial barriers. One membership provides access to every CYC program, from athletics to tutoring, within a structured environment for youth ages 3–18, and financial aid is offered to families in need so no child is turned away due to finances. CYC’s mission is to empower local youth by cultivating transferable life skills through athletic and academic performance and to create a safe, structured environment where young people can develop dedication, discipline, desire, and the confidence to pursue excellence in every part of life.
CYC has shaped Olympians, champions, and many success stories since 1995, when a $1 million gift from The Hofmann Family Foundation transformed a small boxing club on Galaxy Court into a leading youth development center in the Bay Area. The staff includes decorated athletes, Olympic alumni, and dedicated educators, with leadership that includes Matt Harrison (executive director), Dennis Gutridge (Head Judo Coach), and Ed Austin (Head Taekwondo Coach), along with program, coaching, academic, customer service, and operations staff across all activities. Rooted in Concord and serving youth across the Bay Area, CYC is guided by community support, volunteers, and local partnerships and focuses on athletics, academics, and mentorship.
Testimonials from alumni describe CYC as a place that instilled accountability, work ethic, and discipline, and as a “second home” and “family” where coaching staff provided continuous support in their athletic careers.
